Mother's Day is behind us and Memorial Day lies just ahead. This can only mean one thing: summer is arriving! College classes are done (including mine!) High School and younger grades won't be far behind. LBI is coming back to life again! Please enjoy all that our region has to offer safely and remember that the work of the church continues year-round.
I have heard from several people that they enjoyed our mid-week Lenten series and would like to do more, so we are going to try something new: a summer Bible study! For eight weeks, we will take a deep dive into the book of Acts, which tells the story of the early days of the church, beginning with the events of Pentecost. This is one of my favorite books of the Bible because we see the apostles struggling as we do; struggling with their own humanity, struggling to make sense of what they witnessed in the last days of Jesus' earthly ministry, struggling to find a way forward. They don't always do it gracefully, but they always do it with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and a strong sense that God is with and among them as they clumsily carry on. Sound familiar? We will be meeting on Wednesday evenings at 6pm through June and July. If you would like to join us, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex so we know how many books to order. We are asking for a $12 donation per person to cover the cost of the book, if you can.
We are looking forward to Synod Assembly, where Denise and I will be representing our congregation as we choose a new bishop. Bishop Bartholomew has served the synod in various capacities for nearly a quarter of a century. We wish her a fruitful retirement and look ahead with joy and hope.
We are also hopeful that LCHS will have new leadership soon. Nothing specific has happened yet, but there are whispers in the wind that speak of hope and a future. Please continue to pray that the right person will be sent to us soon. I will be sure to keep you up to date.
Wishing you all a wonderful summer filled with sun, fun, and Spirit!
Susan
